Greed

I said, "Sir, science has attained amazing feats. Natural disasters and illnesses are two of humankind's extreme challenges, and science is on the brink of answering both. The time is not far when humanity will outflow the clutches of disasters and calamities." He smiled and looked at me, then said softly, "For example, what has science accomplished?" I replied, "Sir, earthquakes, volcanoes, storms, hurricanes, and floods are the five major disasters. Science has established systems to predict these disasters. Scientists have created a camera that can descend into a volcano’s depths and record the changes happening there. By detecting these changes, experts will be able to predict the exact day and time when a volcano will erupt. After this system is in place , people living near a volcano will be able to relocate in time, saving countless lives and property."

Sir, listened peacefully as I continued, "Earthquake specialists have established a rod that can enter fifty to sixty kilometers beneath the earth's surface, identifying the movement of tectonic plates. As soon as there is any movement in a plate, experts will be able to estimate the intensity of the earthquake, its epicenter, and the affected area long before it occurs. They will inform the people in those areas in advance, allowing them to evacuate their homes and offices before the earthquake strikes, saving thousands or even millions of lives. Experts have also developed building structures that can withstand earthquakes of up to 9.5 on the Richter scale. So, the time is not far when earthquakes will occur, but people will continue with their daily routines undisturbed.

Sir listened intently. I said, "Diseases are humanity's major problem. Scientists have estimated that there are four and a half thousand diseases in our genes, with each disease having its own specific gene. Scientists have identified the genes answerable for two and a half thousand fatal diseases, so the time is not far when scientists will be able to examine a person before symptoms even begin, identify the evolving genes, change them with healthy genes, and the patient will be cured before the disease even takes hold. The process of human cloning is also about to start. In the next ten to twenty years, humans will begin to regenerate before they die.

Sir smiled and dipped in agreement. I continued, "Equally, scientists have recognized the beginnings of storms, cyclones, and floods. Experts say that if these origins are destroyed, these disasters will not occur. Scientists are creating devices that will avoid the winds, waters, and waves from collecting to form storms, floods, and hurricanes. So within the next twelve years, humanity will have control over these three catastrophes as well. Therefore, Sir, the future will be ideal for humanity, with no challenges left in the world. People will live content, comfortable, and peaceable lives.

Sir, laughed and, looking at me with a kind gaze, said, "You are very naive. These natural disasters are not as big an enemy as humans themselves. The damage that humans have inflicted on each other far exceeds the damage caused by natural disasters in the last ten thousand years combined. Take a look at the October 8 earthquake; five times more people have died in accidents on our roads in the last sixty years. The number of neighbors killed by neighbors, sons killing fathers, husbands killed by lovers, husbands killing wives, pedestrians killed by robbers, and friends killing friends each year far exceeds the number of people killed by natural disasters. People like Bush, in their quest for ego satisfaction, kill more people than natural disasters do. The number of people killed by terrorists, and the number of humans killed by other humans in Kashmir, Palestine, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Iraq, and Chechnya, is far greater than those who fall victim to natural disasters. Who dropped the bomb on Nagasaki? Human. Who was the target? Other humans. Who started the first and second world wars? A human. Who suffered? Other humans. Who started the Korean War? Who attacked Vietnam? Who started the Russia-Afghanistan war? Who attacked Afghanistan and Iraq? Humans. And who suffered the consequences? Humans. The October 12 incident, whose doing was it? A human's. And who hurt the values? Humans.

In this world, brothers kill brothers, and friends kill friends. So the real battle is not between humans and natural disasters; it is between humans themselves. Until there is a change in human nature, this world will never be at peace, and devastation will remain on this earth." I attended carefully to Sir, as he spoke. He said, "Humans are afraid of each other. Whenever they become slightly wealthy, whenever they advance a little power or authority, whenever they attain a little success, they start producing pain to others. They will eat mangoes and throw the seeds into their neighbor's grass. They will buy a dog value two lakhs and tie it to someone else's door. They will build an atomic bomb and expect the whole world to bow before them. They will become a king's consultant and want everyone to salute them and obey their orders.

On the other side, there is another human being with the same blood, the same ego, and the same stubbornness. So, humans clash with each other, and in the end, both perish. In the war between humans, both Porus and Alexander die; both end up losing. This is the law of this earth. Therefore, as long as humans desire to rule beyond Macedonia, Samarkand, and Washington, as long as they do not abandon the wish to dominate others, as long as they do not stop meddling with others, humans will continue to kill each other, and there will be no peace on this earth." I remained silent, listening to his words. He added, "Scientists should discover a cure for human nature rather than natural disasters. They should invent a medicine that, once taken, will calm the egos of people and accept each other Medicines that will make humans forgive each other and stop them from opposing with one another.

I continued to listen silently. He concluded, "Trust me, two lions can live in peace and harmony in a forest, but two humans cannot live under the same roof without fighting, clashing, and ultimately perishing. Maybe that is why Allah said, 'By the passage of time, indeed, humanity is in loss.
